Principal's Newsletter 10/09
October 29, 2009
Dear Families and Friends of Del Amigo,
We are now halfway through the first semester and second grading period. We continue to welcome new students every week, integrating them very quickly into our school. Please take a look at the students’ “Board Report” on the reverse side of this letter. We may be a small school, but we have quite an array of activities.
Who are we? Many choose to describe us as a family. As of today, we have over 100 students on campus in three different programs. Approximately 30% of our students have arrived directly from schools in other districts, 30% from Cal High, and 40% split more or less evenly from Monte Vista, Dougherty, and San Ramon High Schools. Almost half are new to us this school year, and well over half are 12th graders. We continue to have the most diverse student body in the district.
Numbers don’t begin to tell the story here. Every student is known by name and much more. The small class sizes and close campus environment allow us the privilege of a working with students as unique individuals with unique challenges and potential. For staff members as well, Del Amigo can be a “family affair.” From cooking enchiladas to substitute teaching to classroom decorating and word processing – our sons, daughters, and even mothers have been on campus this past month to help make Del Amigo a better place.
We hope that some of you will join us for a Thanksgiving meal on Friday, November 20th at 12:30 pm. It will be our way of celebrating the end of the second grading period and bringing together the students’ school and home families. If you would like to participate, please call and let us know you’re coming.
Finally, please take special note of two important communications from the school district included in this mailing. Although we have not yet received any official confirmation of students falling ill from the H1N1 Swine Flu virus, we are all taking special precautions. And even in the midst of pandemics and tough economic times, the school district is attempting to look ahead to the future. Please read the “notes from the nurse” and plan to attend a Community Forum.
As always, feel free to call or visit with any concerns and questions.
Sincerely,
Lucy Daggett
Principal
