January 16, 2015 Update
Dear Del Amigo Community,
Yesterday afternoon we had our third basketball game. We played Valley high school (continuation) in Dublin. It was an incredibly exciting contest – tied 49-49, we headed into overtime. Eventually, the Del Amigo Eagles prevailed 54-52. The players were very excited and fans were equally happy!
Other school news, the first semester is quickly coming to a close and we have lots of activities planned for this week and next:
I would like to invite you to attend the tour of DVC with us. Besides a campus tour, we will be meeting with an Admissions Counselor to discuss the process of enrolling at a Community College. If interested, please contact the school at 855-2600.
In addition to all of this, we have many transitions taking place. Here are some of the updates:
The transition of students coming and going on a campus can be quite difficult, because it is change. Our school culture, which has been developing over the past 5 months will now morph into a new culture. This can be challenging and we recognize and work hard to help students adjust.
Please know that we care deeply about your students educational, social and emotional success and we want to set them up for future success. We will work hard to make this transitional period as smooth as possible.

PS – I will be sending a separate letter regarding our suicide prevention presentation
Suicide Prevention Program
Dear Parent or Guardian:
As you know, life is often a roller-coaster ride of emotions, with teen years being especially susceptible to wide variations in mood. It is easy to misread depression as normal adolescent turmoil; however, depression is among the most common disorders in youth. Suicide is directly related to mental illness, typically depression, and is one of the most serious public health problems facing our youth. Over 90% of youth who die by suicide have a mental disorder that is often undiagnosed or untreated.
To proactively address this issue, SRVUSD's high schools are offering the Depression Awareness Suicide Prevention Program this school year. This program is based on the SOS Signs of Suicide® Suicide Prevention Program, which is the only school-based suicide prevention program that has demonstrated a significant reduction (by 40%) in suicide attempts (BMC Public Health, July 2007).
Our program goals are straightforward:
We intend to implement this program at Del Amigo High School. The program will take place during the class period as an educational lesson including a video and will be conducted by school psychologists and school counselors. The presenters will be available for follow-up with students who wish to speak with them.
If you do not wish for your student to participate, please send a note to your child’s school counselor before January 23, 2015 opting your child out of the classroom lesson. Additionally, if you have any questions or wish to preview the educational materials prior to the classroom presentation, please contact us at 925-855-2600.
